About Mission Mausam:
It is a multi-faceted and transformative initiative that will tremendously boost India\'s weather and climate-related science, research and services.
It has a budget of Rs 2,000 crore for the first two years of its implementation.
Its critical elements include deploying next-generation radars and satellite systems .
The Ministry of Earth Sciences will be the nodal body implementing the mission.
The mission will be spearheaded by three institutions funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences i.e.
India Meteorological Department (IMD)
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune
National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, Noida
Its primary objective is to provide accurate and timely weather forecasts and alerts at various geographical and temporal scales, provide alerts and warnings ahead of extreme weather events, introduce weather interventions that will help manage fog, hail and rainfall in addition to capacity building and training of personnel.
It aims to invest heavily in improving weather surveillance, modeling, forecasting to directly benefit key sectors of agriculture, aviation, defense, disaster management, tourism and health.
