Eight fishermen were killed when their trawling boat capsized in rough weather in the Bay of Bengal around 60 km off the West Bengal coast. Eight more from the boat have been rescued by the police. One is still missing.

A number of large rivers flow into the Bay of Bengal which include the Ganges–Hooghly, the Padma, the Brahmaputra–Jamuna, the Barak–Surma–Meghna, the Irrawaddy, the Godavari, the Mahanadi, the Brahmani, the Baitarani, the Krishna, and the Kaveri.
